Why Sacramento homeowners are adding batteries

Sacramento summers bring long 100-degree stretches, and the AC runs hardest right when SMUD's peak hours hit from 5 to 8 PM. A battery runs your home on stored power through the peak, keeps the lights on in an outage, and SMUD will pay up to $6,000 toward it.

SMUD pays you to add one

SMUD's My Energy Optimizer Partner+ program pays $300 per kWh of eligible battery capacity, up to $6,000 per household.* We handle the paperwork with you.

Skip the 5 to 8 PM peak

SMUD's time-of-day rates cost the most in the evening. A battery runs your home on stored power through the peak, so you buy less of SMUD's priciest power.

Lights on in an outage

Standard solar shuts off when the grid goes down. A Powerwall keeps your fridge, Wi-Fi, lights and essentials running.

“We had struggled with my first solar company, SunPower… Rich Piombo at ROI Solar was able to find a solution for our situation with a few days researching and sizing our residential home's solar and battery needs. The actual installation took less than 5 weeks. We highly recommend using this Lodi CA company.”

Yes. Our own licensed crews install throughout Sacramento and Sacramento County, about 35 miles from our Lodi shop. No subcontractors. CSLB #1082435 (C10 / C46).

How much will SMUD pay toward my battery?

SMUD's My Energy Optimizer Partner+ program pays an upfront incentive of $300 per kWh of eligible battery capacity, up to $6,000 per household. The final amount depends on your battery size and SMUD's program rules. Tesla batteries can also earn ongoing payments from SMUD.

Is my Sacramento home eligible?

The City of Sacramento and most of Sacramento County are served by SMUD. To get the battery incentive you enroll in SMUD's My Energy Optimizer Partner+ program, and homes with solar need to be on SMUD's Solar and Storage Rate. We'll check your bill and tell you which option fits. Customers who stay on SMUD's older net-metering rate can still add a battery but aren't eligible for this incentive.

Do I need solar already?

No. We add batteries to homes that already have solar, and we install complete solar + battery systems for homes that don't.

What happens when the power goes out?

A regular solar system shuts off during an outage for safety. With a Powerwall, your essentials keep running on stored and new solar power until the grid comes back.
